2020: COVID and Cancer
This year was scary, unpredictable and fearful to say the least. Getting a cancer diagnosis, going through treatment, having surgery, and without being able to have family/friends physically support you is just too much to bear.
When COVID-19 hit, Fighting Pretty took a pause. We asked ourselves: how can we continue to help women battling cancer feel strong and beautiful?
Given community volunteer events were out of the question, we knew we couldn't fulfill the Pretty Package requests that came through on a daily basis. We brainstormed and we improvised. Instead of asking individuals to send Pretty Packages to loved ones, we reached out to our community - hospitals, clinics, support groups and more - to help provide strength and beauty to the women currently in cancer treatment during COVID-19.
#SendingStrength
The response was incredible! In 2020, we started a #SendingStrength movement to do just that - send strength to women battling cancer and the medical heroes treating them!
Check out a lymphedema specialist at OHSU, a patient who finished chemo in April, the materials we sent to patients all over the country, and Dr. Emily Hu from Legacy Health supporting our #SendingStrength movement!
We partnered with 21 hospitals, clinics and support groups around the country to help over 3,000 women battling cancer feel strong and beautiful. We sent them donated lipstick from Thrive Causemetics, our mini "knockout pink" boxing gloves, with our Fighting Pretty letter from Kara. Plus, we sent beautiful coloring sheets to the patients and medical staff as well!
What happened to Pretty Packages?
Our Pretty Packages got even better! There are several new products in our Fighting Pretty store, so through COVID-19, we started offering the opportunity to make-your-own Pretty Package for someone you love!
Now, every single one is made to order, and can be designed especially for the woman "Fighting Pretty." This year, we sent hundreds of personalized Pretty Packages to women all over the USA - plus Canada, Italy and Poland!
