Strength through Lipstick

What's your color?

· Beauty

"Give a woman the right lipstick and she can conquer the world."

Someone once asked me what my favorite color of lipstick was. I immediately said pink (duh), but I'm not sure that's entirely true. It's bright lipstick that makes me feel a bit more confident, but it all depends on what I'm wearing, and how I feel that day.

So many things go into how I decide what color to wear. I've never really thought about it, until I sat down and started typing this blog post!

What's the weather? If it's gray and gross, I tend to go a little muted. If it's bright and sunny, I tend to go hot pink, coral in the summer and red in the winter.

Where am I going? If it's in the day, I rarely wear red - that's typically saved for date night or holiday parties. But light pink is great for day events, and hot pink can be too.

What do I want to wear? Regardless of the weather or where I'm going, if I decide on an outfit, I typically use this pairing:

With black or gray, I love pairing it with hot pink.

With yellow, I love pairing it with coral or red.

With pink, I go with a nude or very light pink.

With white, it totally depends on how I'm feeling!

When it comes to brands, I really don't discriminate. Often, I try my best to use the best all-natural brands. Some of my favorites are:

  • Thrive Causemetics (Glossy Lip Hydrating Serum in "Jean")
  • SaltyGirl Beauty (Emelia)
  • Kopari  Lip Glossy (Coconut)
  • MAC Satin Lipstick (Pink Nouveau)

The thing I love best about lipstick, is the immediate gratification. People have actually criticized Fighting Pretty saying - "You think lipstick is going to cure cancer!?" Absolutely not! But I do think lipstick has a way (at least for me) of making me feel a certain way. For me, having bright lips or shiny lips helps me feel a bit sexy, a bit bold, a bit "extra" (as the young kids say).

When I look in the mirror wearing a bright lip, it's a reminder that I should kiss my life. I'm here, I'm healthy, I'm thriving and I am bold. I am beautiful and I am Fighting Pretty!
